Faction Balance? What a Concept…

with one comment

Aion has a faction incentive program going. This is such a neat idea that I wonder why other games don’t do it. Seems to me that any game that wants a serious PvP game happening on its servers would want to do something like this.

Maybe it could be extended to classes, as well. If class balance is 90% Spirit Masters and 10% everything else then perhaps some incentives could be offered to the other classes. Or some buffs and nerfage passed about.

Here’s the list of applicable servers:

North American Selected Servers –

  • Asmodian Faction on Zikel
  • Asmodian Faction on Siel.

European Selected Servers –

  • Asmodian Faction on Spatalos [EN]
  • Asmodian Faction on Telemachus [EN]
  • Elyos Faction on Perento (Fortress Siege Incentive Only) [EN]
  • Asmodian Faction on Thor [DE]
  • Asmodian Faction on Urtem (Fortress Siege Incentive and Gateway Getaway Only) [FR]

What are the rewards?

  • Berdin’s Amulets will be distributed via in-game Survey to all characters levels 10-49 of the targeted Faction. These amulets provide 50% XP gain for one hour, one hour CD, and you will get 50 of them. They can be distributed to your other characters via your group warehouse.  Asmos will indeed level faster on those servers.
  • The Gateway Getaway Event will be enabled on selected servers beginning June 8. This even introduces special entrance gates to the Abyss Fortress treasure rooms for players of the targeted Faction. These gates will allow players of the targeted Faction to enter the Abyss Fortress Instanced Dungeons and Silentera Canyon regardless of Fortress ownership. Question: will the gates be easy enough to access? Or will players have to get past the gank squads? Based on the picture on the announcement page it looks like the gates will be within the main faction bases.
  • Fortress Assaults – Bonus Gold and Platinum medals will be offered, weekly, for capturing, not defending, fortresses. A tally of successful captures is made each week and then the medals are awarded via a survey.

If you are, or want to be, an Asmo on those servers then good times await. Push those Ely’s back to the safety of their bases.

You Ely types aren’t going to put up with that, are you?

Aion Assassin Builds

with 2 comments

There are lots of questions that people ask regarding how best to build your Assassin. Which weapons, which weapon combos, how about Stigmas, which manastones should be stacked, etc. Here are a couple of guides that will fill you in and let you make the right Assassin build for your game.

This first guide covers weapon choice, armor sets, manastones builds, and stigma setups:

Assassin Build Guide (Yeah, I was bored) – Aion Forums

If you want a guide on sin skills, tactics, rotations, and so on, there’s a great guide here: http://www.aionsource.com/topic/2185…dium-of-a-sin/ Section 1: Weapons As an assassin, you can use daggers, swords,

This next guide is only up to the Aion 1.5 patch, but otherwise does a very comprehensive job of covering pretty much everything about your ‘Sin. If you’re looking for anything 50+, this isn’t it, but if you’re lower than that then it will cover you nicely. The same author also has a post on Assassin stuns and includes links in the guide to gear (nothing recent, of course, but still good if you’re not close to 50) and to articles with more info.

Aion Assassin FAQ

The Assassin class is the “Rogue” or “Thief” archetype found within Aion. Like the majority of games which have such a class, you will find that dual wielding, stealth, and large amounts of melee (physical) based damage make up the class’ basic utilities. They rely on their ability to “burst” (do large amounts of damage in a short period of time) and restrict their targets movements through the use of stuns.

Some remarks on Stigma usage in your 40s.

stigma buildsAion Forums

stigma builds Assassin. I just might wait until QD at 55. The Assassin Advanced Stigma tree is probably the most *meh* tree in the game, especially since a lot of their non-Advanced are so useful.

Ranger PvP Video and Guide

without comments

Sneaking, a little crowd control, a few well placed shots… Sweet. No talking, just nice Rangering.

What?
You want a little more explanation for this PvP game?
Ok, check out this Ranger PvP guide on the forums.

Intro
The ranger class can be looked at as a lolezmode class or a class that takes skill in order to be successful, depending on opinions based off the luck or misfortune of the players you play against.
LOLEZmode is a common excuse players will make when you roll them as a Ranger. If a player is bad and you make your class look easy by not having to try due to the opponent’s incompetence then yes, you are going to appear to be EZmode. This is true with most classes with the exception of Gladiators who have a very small amount of skill required to play. But hey, that’s game mechanics and this little piece is aimed to help you understand how those game mechanics effect you as a RNGer, err…Ranger.

Sodah's Ranger Bible (endgame PvP) – Aion Forums

Probably the best know NA Ranger Cyrkle rocks 40e as his only pvp set. It is much easier/cheaper to get into the +14, +15 ranges like he has done too. The only drawback to 40e is the level of manastones and the set bonus

Now, if your Templar has a Glad in each hand, is he dual wielding glads? Is he Tank and Damage? Or should I just shut up and post the link to the forum discussion on that topic?

Assault on Balauria

without comments

The expansion has landed and it’s a big one. Assault on Balauria. Ok, sure, it landed a long time ago (a whole week!) but what the heck, this post is for me. :)

Official NCsoft trailer:

A short podcast covering some of the features:

Level cap is now 55
Pets are functional and help with stuff, such as Crafting (more here on pets)
New zones and instances
Solo instances
Enhanced flight mechanics
And yes, you can now brag on Twitter.

I want to see many more missions that are tied into the story, something was beyond “Kill 20 of these for a coin.” Class specific missions would be awesome. “You there! Chanter! We need you to do X and Y and only you can do this!”

Small group missions which can’t be done with one player, keeping a high level player from soloing them. Mission X requires three players to do Y, and so on…

Check this out if you want to get the most our of your Aion characters.

A list of the Morphing Recipes in the Forts

with one comment

The various forts in the Abyss each have a quartermaster who sells, among other things, recipes to morph items from one for to another. Why would I be looking for this? I’m trying to find a morph method for fine elemental stone, So I’m poking around the various fortresses looking at the Quartermaster stores.

Recipes are for the Elyos side, I assume they are the same for the Asmo faction. Get some Kinah, some of these recipes are expensive.

Kysis Fortress – Igistus (Elyos) or Varna (Asmo.)

The Expert Crafting Quest – Alchemy

      without comments

Ok, for the Expert Alchemy Quest (to get past skill level 399) you have to make a Worthy Noble Durable Proof Tome (WNDPT.) Simple enough, right?

Start with the Durable Proof Tome and hope it procs to a Noble Durable Proof Tome.

Then take the Noble book and plug it into the recipe to make a Worthy Durable Proof Tome. Then you hope that procs into the desired Worthy Noble Durable Proof Tome.

Every now and then (ok, it’s rare) you’ll see a WNDPT offered in trade or on the broker. The one I saw was 15 million. Right now, if I had the 15 mil, I think i’d buy it! You’ll save hours of time, a fair amount of frustration, and it’ll probably costs about that much anyway, unless you’re lucky. As of this writing, I’ve made 15 tries. I’ve had 7 procs into the Worthy book, but no nobles. Last try for now… IT PROCCED!!!  15 tries, 1 proc into the WNDPT. Cost: Lots of cash and time.

      Once you have the WNDPT:

      • Hand in the quest to the alchemist. She gives you a letter of recommendation to see the …
      • Governor. He awards you the title of Expert, gives you a gold hat, and a ticket to get your warehouse expanded.
      • Go get your warehouse expanded
      • Talk to the Alchemist and get your promotion to 400 skill.

Here’s a table to calculate the materials needed for this quest.

For the Durable Proof Tome, from which you want a noble proc.

      • Make 29 Major Magic Power Crystal
        • Buy or gather 116 Major Elemental Stone to make 580 Major Elemental Water
        • Buy 29 major catalyst
      • Make 36 Major Wisdom Stone
        • Buy or gather 72 Major Elemental Stone to make 144 Major Elemental Stone Powder
        • Buy 36 Major Catalyst
      • (That’s 188 Major Elemental Stone and 65 Major Catalyst for each attempt)
      • Buy or gather 6 Premium Weapon Flux
      • Buy or gather 78 Aether

      Costs (which will vary:)

      • 65 major cat. at ~5k each: 325K kinah
      • 6 premium Weap0n Flux at 15k each (if you’re lucky:) 90K kinah
      • 79 Aether at 1,700 each: 134,000 kinah
      • 188 Major Elemental Stone at 1,500 each (if you’re lucky:) 282,000 kinah
      • 831,000 kinah per attempt. Sell back white books for ~435K, so…
      • each attempt costs roughly 400,000 kinah.

For each Worthy book, which you want to proc into the desired Worthy Noble Durable Proof Tome, you need:

      • 1 Noble Durable Proof Tome
      • Buy or gather 6 Worthy Premium Weapon Flux
      • Buy or gather 17 Greater Aether
      • Buy or gather 26 Greater Mithril Ore

      Costs (which will vary:)

      1. NDPT = some multiple of 400K kinah
      2. 6 flux @ 120K each, 720,000 kinah
      3. 17 Greater Aether @ 5K each, 85,000 kinah
      4. 26 Greater Mithril Ore @ 6K each, 156,000 kinah
      5. 1,361,000 minimum to complete the quest if you buy everything. Less money and a lot more time if you gather stuff.

      So…

      • 15 books at 400k each = 6 million
      • 8 procs trying for the final book = about 7.6 million
      • So roughly 13.5 to 14 mill to complete this quest, buy buying all the parts (and I did.)

Yeah, if I was to do it over again I might wait for the finished book to pop up and then spend the 15 mil on it…  If I had the 15 mil.

Sold a lot of potions to pay for this quest (Alchemy is a good money maker.)

This book has a ton of kinah gathering tips:

      Aion Server Merge and Transfers

      without comments

Aion’s offering free server transfers as the servers merge, to allow you to test the waters of your new server. From Massively:

With NCsoft’s upcoming Aion server merges looming, chances are you’ve taken the time to figure out where your daeva’s new home is going to be (as well as marked your calendar to be sure you get first dibs on keeping your name). What you may not know is that you’ve got plenty of opportunities to test out the various Aion server communities after the merges are complete.

The rest (along with some snarky comments from the readers:) Aion offers six free server transfers per character

      Aion Does Michael Jackson, Sortof

An Aion player did a slick cover of Michael Jackson’s song Billie Jean. Very nice.

You can actually get a Michael Jackson Billie Jean Costume and then you can do your own cover of the song. If you just like the song, here it is: Billie Jean (Single Version)
